Arrival by Air
For air travel, the closest airport is Philadelphia
International Airport, only nine miles south of campus. Ground transportation
from the airport includes regional rail, rental car, shuttle van, and
taxi.
- By regional rail
- You can take the SEPTA
R1/Airport line from any Airport terminal (A-E) to 30th
Street Station, a few blocks from the Lab. The R1 runs twice hourly
for most of the day; see SEPTA's online schedule for details. If you
checked luggage, enter the train platform outside of the baggage claim
area on the lower level. If you have only carry-on luggage, you can
enter from the upper walkway adjacent to the gate area. The ride to
30th Street Station takes about 20 minutes and costs $5.50. To complete
your trip to the Lab, follow the directions from 30th Street Station
for arrival by train.
- By rental car
- You can rent a car at the Airport from Alamo,
Avis, Budget,
Dollar, Hertz,
and National
agencies. From the Airport, follow the signs for I-95 North / PA 291
East to I-76. You will approach the Lab along
westbound I-76. About 20-30 minutes.
- By shuttle van
- Lady Liberty suttle van service is located adjacent to campus. Call
215-724-8888 to make reservations and confirm rate (about $8). Your
destination on Penn's campus is 3330
Walnut Street, Levine Hall. The ride to campus takes about 30 minutes,
but the van may stop elsewhere for other passengers.
- By taxi
- Taxis queue outside of the baggage claim area. Your destination
on Penn's campus is 3330
Walnut Street, Levine Hall. There is a flate rate of $20.00 (to
area hotels?). The ride takes about 30 minutes.
Alternative airports to Philadelphia International include Newark
International (Newark, NJ, 85 miles), Baltimore-Washington
International (Baltimore, MD, 109 miles), JFK
International (Jamaica, NY, 105 miles), and La
Guardia (Flushing, NY, 105 miles). You can complete your trip to Philadelphia
from these other airports most easily by train
