GRASP Seminar: Biing-Chwen Chang, National Taiwan University, “Assistive and Rehabilitation Robotics – Design and Applications”

August 28 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

*This seminar will be held in-person in Levine 307 as well as virtually via Zoom. This seminar will NOT be recorded.

ABSTRACT

The common applications of robots are industrial arms and service robots that assist people in finishing their work. Thus, the versatility of the robots can also provide daily assistance and rehabilitation for those with mobility impairments. This talk will use neck assistive devices and an end-effector-based pelvic rehabilitation platform as examples to introduce the design and application of assistive devices. Other ongoing work in the lab will also be covered in this talk.

Biing-Chwen Chang - Learn More

Biing-Chwen Chang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Taiwan University. She completed her PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2021 at Columbia University, advised by Professor Sunil Agrawal. Her research interest focuses on studying the biomechanical effect of rehabilitation robots on various functional tasks. Current research topics in her lab include: (1) Soft pneumatic actuators: designing and investigating the force and stroke of the soft pneumatic actuator. (2) Wearable devices for assistance and rehabilitation: developing mechanical devices with integrated sensors and utilizing the machine learning algorithm to improve measurement accuracy.
