ABSTRACT
New Horizons Studio is a team that is focused on the design, technology, and engineering of ultimate mobility vehicles. NHS believes that the combination of robotics and car design will result in vehicles the overcome the limitations of cars with conventional suspension systems. A brief history covering the beginnings of the idea and the current state of development will be presented. In addition to the core technical challenges, how such a vehicle could be used will also be discussed.

John Suh
John Suh is vice president and founding director of New Horizons Studio which is focused on the development of ultimate mobility vehicles (UMVs). New Horizons Studio’s mission is to create products for future customers who want or need to travel thru complex and challenging terrain. NHS is pushing conventional vehicle design by combining robotics and wheeled locomotion to create vehicles of unprecedented mobility.
John has held several leadership roles at Hyundai Motor Group since 2011. He served as founding director of Hyundai Ventures, and then led Hyundai CRADLE (Center for Robotic-Augmented Design in Living Experiences) as its founding director based in Silicon Valley. He brings over 35 years of expertise in the automotive and emerging technology sectors, including roles at Stanford University, Palo Alto Research Center (PARC; formerly, Xerox PARC), and General Motors Company.
John has a BS degree in electrical engineering from Kettering University and an MS and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from Stanford University. John has numerous technical publications, patents, and patents pending in the fields of vehicle design, robotics, artificial nose technology, and location based services.
